We are so pleased that you will support our student competitors by judging speech & debate events.

Online, March 17-20, 2021

What will the experience be like?

  • VIRTUAL: You will judge from the comfort of your own home!
  • EDUCATIONAL: You will likely learn new information and be entertained! Go to the Stoa website to find out more about our speech events and debate events. There are a variety of options; see what sounds interesting to you!

What is required?

  • Experience: NONE. Really! We'll tell you everything you need to know via video trainings
  • Age: 18+
  • Time: each round you judge will take ~2.5 to 3 hours
  • Tech: stable high-bandwidth internet, dedicated computer with webcam
  • Webcam: must be activated for the entire time you are judging
  • Browser: Firefox, Chrome or Safari. (Microsoft Explorer and Edge DON'T work with our electronic ballot system.)
  • Training: video links will be sent to you before the tournament. Speech training = 14 minutes; Debate training = 25 minutes; StoaTraX Tech training (for electronic ballots) = 8 minutes


Please see the time zone tabs on the left to see the schedule in your own time zone. The tournament will be headquartered in Pacific Daylight Time. You will need to report to COMMUNITY BALLOT PUSH 1 HOUR BEFORE YOUR SCHEDULED ROUND to receive your ballot.

What Do All Those Abbreviations Mean?


  • Parli = Parliamentary Debate
  • LD = Lincoln Douglas Debate
  • TP = Team Policy Debate

These descriptions are listed on the schedule:

  • "Speech Round A1" = Speech, Pattern A, Round 1 (A2 means Pattern A, Round 2)
  • "Speech Round B1" = Speech, Pattern B, Round 1 (B2 means Pattern B, Round 2)
  • "Pattern" = the specific speech events that will be competing at that time. For this tournament,
  • Pattern A = Dramatic Interp, Expository, Extemporaneous, Humorous Interp, Mars Hill, Original Oratory.
  • Pattern B = Apologetics, Duo Interp, Open Interp, Oratory Analysis, Persuasive
